Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has set a production target of 8.64 million tonne for Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) for 2016-17 financial year.
Holding a review meeting on different issues of OMC, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Saturday directed OMC to increase production of minerals in the state.
“We have set a production target of 8.64 mt for 2016-17 fiscal. We have achieved 2.45 mt production till July end,” said OMC managing director Vineel Krishna.
He also said that the government has applied for environment clearance of three mines to the Union Forest and Environment Ministry.
The government has sought environment clearance for extension of lease area and enhancement of production of Daitari iron ore mine, Unhabali, and Kurmitar iron ore mine. OMC has been allotted 35 mines.
The issues relating to enhancing the production of Daitari mines from 3 mt per annum to 6 mt per annum, Kurmitar mines from 2.4 mt to 6 mt per annum and Unhabali mines from 0.07 mt to 1.0 mt per annum were discussed in the meeting.
