Home Department Requested To Recruit From All Sporting Disciplines

Bhubaneswar: The Sports and Youth Affairs Department has asked the Home Department in Odisha government to recognize all sporting disciplines and provide employment to the meritorious sportspersons.

The Sports and Youth Affairs (S&YA) department has recognized 39 sporting disciplines for various benefits in Odisha. The General Administration Department has also recognized all the sporting disciplines.

“The Home Department may kindly consider to include the left out 15 disciplines recognized by S&YA so that the sportspersons belonging to the disciplines are not deprived of the government benefits,” said S&YA Secretary Saswat Mishra in a letter to Home Secretary Asit Panigrahi.

The Home department has recognized 26 sporting disciplines and provided employment to 60 sportspersons so far in the police service.

The government has adopted a rule for direct recruitment of meritorious sportspersons of the state in Odisha Police last year in recognition of their outstanding performance.

The Home Department has promulgated Odisha meritorious sportspersons (Recruitment to group-A Odisha Police Service and posts and conditions of service) rules, 2015.

It has also promulgated Odisha meritorious sportspersons (Recruitment to the group-B and C services and posts and conditions of service) rules, 2014 to provide employment.
