Bhubaneswar: Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here is all set to operate round the clock starting from September 1.
“We are ready for the night operations and have sufficient manpower and infrastructural requirements,” said BPIA director R Mahalingam.
Once night operations start, IndiGo airline will introduce more direct flights to Kolkata and Delhi. The first two additional flights from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata and Delhi will be in the evening. These flights will start from September 12.
The other two additional flights to Delhi and Kolkata will be in early morning starting from October 1.
“From October 1 onwards IndiGo airline would park their aircraft in the night and will take off for Kolkata and Delhi in the early morning hour. We are confident that we will have more flights shortly,” said Mahalingam.
With the approval of these direct flights, BPIA can be technically regarded as a base flights system (in which the aircraft will be parked at the airport during the night) operation airport.
At present, IndiGo is the only airline that offers a direct flight to and from Kolkata. The Kolkata flights of Vistara and Air India are via Delhi Night operations will also increase job opportunities at the airport and more staff will be hired before October 1.
