IMD Issues Cyclone Warning Over Bay Of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: A low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal is gradually intensifying into a cyclonic storm. As a result, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has hoisted Distant Cautionary Signal Number One ( DC-I) at all ports in Odisha.

“The Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area over East-central & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal concentrated into a Depression on Friday over Central & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal,” said a bulletin of IMD.

It remained practically stationary over the same area, which is about 750 km Southeast of Gopalpur.

“The system is very likely to move East-Northeastwards and reach near Myanmar Coast on 23rd October 2016. The system is most likely to intensify into a Deep Depression during next 24 hours and into a Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours,” said the bulletin.

Even though the Weather department predicted its impact ‘NIL’ in the state, it has advised the fishermen to be cautious while venturing into interior/distant sea along Odisha Coast.
