Police Complaint Lodged Against 120 Absentee Doctors

Bhubaneswar: A complaint has been filed with the commissionerate police against the 120 medical officers, who are unauthorisedly absent prior to 2014.

“The medical officers have committed criminal misconduct thereby absconding from their duties for a long time without due permission or intimation to their higher authorities. It is learned that they have withdrawn their salaries and remunerations, which are admittedly pecuniary advantage without rendering any public service which is an offense under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988,” said complainant Subash Mohapatra.

Notably, the health department of Odisha government has issued notices to 120 long absentee doctors to join within 15 days from the date of publication of the notice. The notice also warned to take disciplinary action against the doctors if they do not join their duty within the stipulated time.

It is further learned that the medical officers having nexus with departmental higher authorities managed to stay away from their duties for years together and a greater scam involving corruption to the tune crores of rupees can’t be ruled out, he added.
