Boat capsized in Odisha’s Chilika lake, several killed


Ganjam: In an unfortunate incident, a boat ferrying about 29 passengers capsized in Chilika Lake on Saturday.

Ganjam collector Prem Chandra Choudhury said four persons including one child died in the incident while rescue operation is on to trace seven missing people.

He said 22 persons have been rescued so far.

The persons were traveling from Sabalia to Ghantisila.

Soon after the accident, the locals rushed to the spot and managed to rescue several persons. Later, the Fire brigade personnel rushed for the rescue work.

ODRAF team also pressed into action along with three 108 ambulances and one 102 ambulance.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed to expedite the rescue operation. He announced ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to each family of the deceased.
