Rourkela steel plant executive director arrested by CBI for taking bribe


Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant Executive Director B.P. Burma was arrested by CBI on Monday for allegedly taking Rs. one lakh bribe to pass a tender.

The CBI has also arrested the person who had allegedly given the bribe to Burma. He was identified as Binay Kumar Singh, a representative of a company which supplies refractories items to the RSP, said CBI sources.

Meanwhile, it is examining the bank accounts of Burma in Rourkela.

Sources said they have seized about 29 lakh from the bank account of Burma. Besides, the CBI would open the bank locker on Monday.

The central investigating agency would bring Burma and another arrested person to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation.

Earlier on Sunday, a six-member team of CBI had raided the residence and office of Burma in Rourkela and seized Rs 20 lakh cash of Rs 2000 denomination from his possession.

The investigation into the seizure of huge cash of Rs. 2,000 denomination from Burma’s possession is currently underway, said CBI sources.

Though Burma was transferred to Bokaro Steel Plant as executive director (Works and Project) three days ago, he has not joined his duty there yet.

On Wednesday, officials of the investigating agency had raided the office and residence of RSP officers – Harekrushna Behera and AK Karmakar– on charges of irregularities in goods procurement.
