Bhubaneswar (Odisha): The USA has sought cooperation from Odisha police about the safety of Americans, especially tourists visiting Maoists affected tourist destinations in the state.

Holding a discussion with DGP Kunwar Brajesh Singh and police commissioner YB Khurania here on Thursday, US Consul General in Hyderabad Katherine B Hadda sought the cooperation for the safety of US nationals.

During the meeting, there was an elaborate discussion with regard to cooperation between the USA and Odisha government in the subject like human trafficking, cyber crime, availability of safe and secure environment for U.S. nationals during their visit to Odisha, said a release.

As a mark of courtesy and good gesture, DGP Singh presented a memento to the Consulate General at the end of the meeting.

Though the state has so far not witnessed any violent crime against Americans, the bustling tourism industry had received a setback following the abduction of two Italian tourists Paolo Bosusco and Claudio Colangelo by Maoists in Kandhamal district in March 2012.
