Odisha to sign MoU with union govt for quality improvement of technical education

Bhubaneswar (Odisha): The Odisha government is all set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for the implementation of Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) in the state.

The agreement is scheduled to be signed at Shastri Bhawan on January 30 in New Delhi.

Eight engineering colleges of the state have been included under the TEQIP in the third phase of the project. The eight engineering colleges include VSSUT, CET, IGIT, and others.

The first phase of the program was launched in 13 districts of the country including 127 educational institutions in 2003. The second phase was launched in 23 states and union territories covering 191 educational institutions of the country in 2009.

In the third phase of the project, the Centre has enlisted few states, including Odisha, as ‘focused states’ for the development of technical education at an investment of Rs 2,660 crore, sources said.

The Centre has asked the State to furnish all the information regarding these engineering colleges by January 30.

The project will focus on developing the quality education, filling up the faculty positions, imparting training to the teachers through new technology and research sectors.
