Man kills infant son over family dispute in Mayurbhanj

Baripada (Odisha): A man reportedly strangulated his 18-month-old son to death in Mayurbhanj district here on Tuesday.

The unfortunate incident occurred at Jodapokhari village under Rairangpur police limits in Mayurbhanj district.

Sources said, one Laxman Patra allegedly strangulated his son Biswaranjan Patra to death due to the family dispute.

While Laxman tried to run away from the village soon after committing the crime, villagers overpowered him and handed over to the police, sources added.

Laxman and his wife had a quarrel for several days as the former wanted to marry another woman. He often used to threaten to kill her and the child as she was vehemently protesting his move.

Police said Laxman might have strangulated his son as he was in an inebriated state.

Meanwhile, police have detained the accused for interrogation and sent the minor’s body for postmortem.
