ASI sanctions 3.46 crore for Jagmohan repair of Jagannath temple

Puri: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has sanctioned Rs 3.46 crore to the works department of Odisha government for installation of stainless steel frames at the Jagamohan of Srimandir here.

The ASI and the works department were earlier in collision course over the repair works at the crumbling structure of Jagamohan.

Sources said a Bhubaneswar-based private construction company has been roped in by the works department to install steel frames at Jagamohan. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), meanwhile, demolished a few small storerooms near the structure for smooth repair work.

“We have written to various servitors’ groups informing them our decision to raze some minor structures on the temple precincts to facilitate Jagamohan renovation. Members of the Srimandir technical committee are scheduled to examine the crumbling structure of Jagamohan February 2,” said an SJTA official.

Srimandir sources said repair work at the seven pockets of Jagamohan has reached the final stage.

SJTA sources said the temple renovation work will be suspended for eight days in February and March for some special rituals of the deities on occasions like Basant Penchami, Agri Utsav and Dola Purnima.
