Election for block vice-chairman begins in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Election for the block vice-chairman began in 307 blocks out of 314 blocks in Odisha on Thursday.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has decided not to hold elections in seven blocks due to several reasons.

The SEC has directed all the BDOs and Tehsildars to act as Election Officers during the block vice-chairman election. However, the officials cannot act as the Election Officers in their own respective blocks, said SEC sources.

They have been assigned to go to other blocks to oversee the election process, sources added.

As per the schedule, the filing of nominations, scrutinisation, and voting would be held on the same day. The results will be declared at 5 pm.

Security has been tightened at all the block offices to avoid any untoward incident during the election.
