Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra was on Friday expelled from the party’s Kendrapara district committee by the district party chief Duryodhana Sahu.
“Mohapatra has been expelled from the district committee as a special invited member. Besides, recommendations have been made to the BJP state president to expel him from the party,” said Sahu.
The expulsion showed the internal bickering within the party.
“Bijoy Mohapatra has been resorting to disturbances for the last six months, damaging the party organization here. Some of his supporters created pandemonium at our party meeting on Thursday where some Congress and BJD leaders were slated to join BJP.”
“Those supporters of Bijoy Mohapatra shouted slogans hailing Bijoy Mohapatra. They shouted that minus Bijoy Mohapatra they wouldn’t allow BJP organization to flourish further,” said Sahu.
Reacting to the development, Bijoy Mohapatra said, “I’m yet to know about the statements of the party district president. Neither anything written form has been received by me nor anybody has discussed the matter with me.”
“If at all they have taken such a decision, I convey my hearty thanks. I welcome the right decision,” he added.
Notably, Bijoy Mohapatra has been sidelined in the state unit of BJP since long. He has been vocal against the party on several issues including Mahanadi water dispute.
