Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday opposed the Triple Talaq Bill in Lok Sabha and sought to redraft of the Bill.
Taking part in the debate soon after the Triple Talaq Bill was introduced in the Lower House of the Parliament, BJD parliamentary party leader Bhatruhari Mahtab said that the Triple Talaq Bill is flawed as there are many internal contradictions in it.
“The bill needs reconsideration, go back and redraft the bill as the bill in its current form would encourage more number of court cases,” said Mahtab.
AIMIM member Asaduddin Owaisi also opposed the Bill.
Notably, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017 was introduced after a voice vote following opposition by some members, including BJD MP Bhatruhari Mahtab and AIMIM member Asaduddin Owaisi.
