Cattle-laden truck overturns, four cows killed; 3 hurt in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A cattle laden truck turned turtle near Baji Rout bridge in Nilakanthapur village under Bhuban tehsil in Dhenkanal district today killing four cows and injuring many.

Three persons, including the driver and helper of the vehicle, also sustained injuries in the mishap.

Following the mishap, locals blocked the Bhuban-Dhenkanal road alleging that the cattle were being transported illegally due to the lackadaisical attitude of the administration. They demanded immediate action against the vehicle drivers and those involved in the cattle smuggling.

Sources said the cattle-laden truck was on its way to Haripur village in the district when the driver lost control of the vehicle because of poor visibility due to heavy fog. As a result, it overturned.

Meanwhile, police rescued and admitted the three injured persons to the hospital and trying to pacify the agitation. The injured cows were also being provided treatment by locals, the sources added.
