Congress, BJP give Odisha bandh call over Kunduli gang rape case


Bhubaneswar: A day after Kunduli gang rape survivor committed suicide, the Congress and BJP on Tuesday declared to hold 12-hour Odisha bandh across the state on Wednesday.

Both Congress and BJP will observe a 12-hour bandh tomorrow from 6 am to 6 pm across the state over the suicide of Kunduli gang rape case. However, the emergency service including plying of ambulance and opening of medicine stores would not be affected following the Odisha bandh over Kunduli gang rape case.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan said appealed people for their cooperation in making the Odisha bandh a successful one.

Harichandan also demanded resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the issue and strict action against all the culprits in the case.

State BJP general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said the party will hold hartal across the state protesting on the inaction of the state government over Kunduli gang rape case which led to the unfortunate incident of the survivor committing suicide.

Notably, the minor tribal girl of Sorisapadar village, who was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year, hanged herself at her house on Monday.

The girl was allegedly gang raped when she was returning from Kunduli market near the village.

The family members said that she took the extreme step as the officials are in denial mode that she was raped at all.
