Rs.551.78 crore piped water projects in mining affected Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved Rs.551.78 crore piped water projects to be implemented in mining-affected areas of the state.

The four rural piped water supply projects will be implemented in mining-affected Jajpur, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts.

These projects will benefit around 2.34 lakhs of people in nine blocks of these districts.

The project funded under Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC) assistance will be implemented within a period of 24 months.

The government has decided to take up the mega rural piped water supply projects in 293 mining affected villages of Jajpur, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts out of the funds under OMBADC, said chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

This is for the first time that such large-scale drinking water projects will be implemented in these interior areas, he added.
