Farmers demand price, prestige, pension in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: Demanding price, prestige and pension for farmers, hundreds of farmers on Monday took out a rally and staged a demonstration at PMG square here.

The agitating farmers under the banner of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), a farmers’ outfit, demanded the introduction of Rs 5,000 monthly pension provision for farmers, Rs 5,000 bonus on per quintal of paddy and a budgetary allocation of Rs 21,600 crore for agriculture sector among many others.

Navnirman Krushak Sangathan coordinator Akshaya Kumar urged the government to fulfil their longstanding demands for the sake of farmers.

The farmers’ body is demanding that farmers must be given an appropriate price for their produces, prestige in the society; and pension to any farmer who is above 60 years.
