Ramadevi University students intensify stir for 2nd campus

Bhubaneswar: Students of Ramadevi Women’s University here on Saturday blocked the Vani Vihar -Master Canteen Road demanding immediate selection of a second campus after the government failed to decide on the new location for the second campus.

They also demanded the continuation of autonomous status to Ramadevi College.

The students resorted to road blockade as the state government failed to select the second campus for the University.

Ramadevi is the only government women’s college in Khurda. Earlier, authorities assured that the site for a second campus would be decided on latest by March 15. However, no decision has been taken in this regard yet, RD students’ council president Soubhagya Soumyashree Samal said.

Samal further said that although Ramadevi, GM College and Khalikote College were given the status of university simultaneously, unlike GM and Khalikote that have already got their second campus, Ramadevi is yet to get its second campus or extended campus.

Earlier on Friday, the aggrieved students burnt tyres near the varsity premises and threatened to continue the protest for an indefinite period to demand a suitable land for the second campus of the University.

The students are also protesting the abolition of 71 teachers’ posts and 100 non-teaching staff’s posts.

They are demanding the continuation of the autonomous to Ramadevi College. They are also opposing the separation of Plus II and Plus III. The college has lost the autonomous status after it was upgraded to a unitary university.
