IMD issues a lightning, thunderstorm warning in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a lightning, thunderstorm, and rainfall warning for 10 districts in Odisha.

The districts that have been put on alert are Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Khorda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Khurda Puri and Dhenkanal districts.

“Latest Doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph likely to occur over ten districts between 6. 45 pm and 10.45 pm,” said a statement from the Met department.

The Met Department has advised people in these areas to stay in safe places and avoid venturing out till 10.45 pm.

Meanwhile, several parts of Odisha received rainfall bringing the temperature down.

The Met department said that scattered rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over Odisha and along the coastline of Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
