Two trampled to death in Sambalpur; elephant cub found dead in Mayurbhanj

Sambalpur/Mayurbhanj: Two elderly persons, including a woman, were trampled to death by elephants at Makarkonda village in Redhakhol area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district late Friday night.

The deceased have been identified as Samhu Bhoi (65) and Sebati Bhoi (70).

A herd of elephants barged into the village on Friday night and damaged several houses. The elephants trampled both Sambhu and Sebati to death while they were sleeping inside their respective houses.

Meanwhile, a dead body of an elephant cub was found lying on an agricultural field near Baincha village under Betonati forest range area in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday morning.

The exact reason behind the death was not yet known. Forest officials have reached the spot and started an investigation.
