CM directs foolproof arrangements for Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018


Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday directed foolproof arrangements for the ensuing Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 to be held in Bhubaneswar in November-December.

The marquee event of world hockey will further elevate Odisha’s position as the Sports Capital of India and a global sports destination, said Patnaik while reviewing the performance of Sports and Youth Services Department here.

The Chief Minister instructed expeditious completion of all sports infrastructure projects like the mini-stadiums, rural playgrounds and the High-Performance Academy for Athletics in partnership with International Association of Athletics Federations and Athletics Federation of India.

He emphasised the creation of sports ecosystem for promoting and nurturing talents from the grassroots level by making best facilities and training available to them. He also stressed that sports events and festivals should be held regularly and on time.

The Chief Minister directed the formation of Biju Yuva Vahini across all GPs to create a movement of volunteerism, community action and empowerment of youth in the state.
