Odisha govt creates solatium fund to compensate in hit and run cases

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has created a solatium fund for payment of compensation to the victims of hit and run motor accident cases.

The government has created a solatium fund with a token provision of Rs 1 crore for giving compensation to the road accident victims, said a Transport department official on Tuesday.

The fund has been created as per the direction of the Supreme Court.

In case of death of any person, Rs 2 lakh would be provided while Rs 50,000 would be provided in respect of grievous hurt to any person, the official said.
