Bhubaneswar: Oil Ministry’s 1st Skill Development Institute (SDI), Bhubaneswar on Sunday completed its two years of successful journey in skill training of unemployed and underprivileged youth of Odisha.
As part of the 2nd foundation day celebration, Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched several initiatives of the SDI, Bhubaneswar.
Pradhan said India’s most promising Skill Academy promoted by Oil PSUs under Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas in the line with Government of India’s Skill India mission is now in its second year.
With the SDI, Bhubaneswar doing exceptionally well, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has taken an initiative of setting up several Skill Development Institutes (SDIs) in different parts of the country-Vizag, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Raebareli.
Pradhan also said, “SDI has acquired 46.172 acres of land out of 60 acres of land allotted by State Government at Jatni and is inching towards a Mega Model Skill Academy of International Standards to be able to provide skill training to around 50000 youths over the next 10 years in various regular trades related to Hydrocarbons & local industries.”
“I am happy to know that reputed employers / recruiters have shown their interest and preferring SDI trainees for recruitment as the students who have passed from SDI have proved their merit by being excellent skilled workforce in their organizations. SDI, Bhubaneswar will drive the skill ecosystem of the Eastern India,” he added.
A Special postage stamp coinciding with the 2nd Foundation day celebrations of SDI pilot campus was also released with brand logo of SDI Bhubaneswar on Konark theme to reflect rich heritage of Odisha.
A new course on LPG mechanic course was introduced by the Minister for renewed focus on the safety in use and Maintenance & Repair of Domestic and Commercial LPG installations with proper job role for fresh skilling/ Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Entrepreneurship and Self-employment.
