Bhubaneswar: Assault on unidentified persons on suspicion of child-thief continues to happen in Odisha as a fresh incident was reported from Kalahandi district on Monday night.
According to reports, a mentally unsound person was beaten up severely at Sirole village under Kesinga police limits in Kalahandi district last night.
A youth from Bihar was moving in the village when some residents of Sirole took him as a child lifter. Soon, they questioned him a lot and, as he failed to reply, they beat him severely.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot and rescued the youth from villagers. Later the youth was found to be mentally unsound and a resident of Bihar.
Police have detained three persons and are interrogating them in this connection.
It may be noted that assaults of unidentified persons are being reported from different places.
Notably, Odisha DGP RP Sharma had said that there was no child-thief gang operating in the state and appealed to people not to go by postings on the social media, which is spreading rumours on child theft.
