Bhubaneswar: Fire broke out in the luggage van of Keonjhar-Bhubaneswar Fast Passenger train near Chilikidara station in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday morning.
No casualties, injuries or damage to belongings of any passenger or other railway personnel aboard the train has been reported, informed officials of the East Coast Railway.
According to reports, the fire was spotted inside the luggage van of the passenger train, following which the loco pilot stopped the train.
On being informed, fire personnel reached the spot and initiated efforts to douse the flames.
“One Parcel Van loaded by CRPF at KDJR was attached next to locomotive in the passenger train. Smoke is coming out of this Parcel Van. Loco had been detached and GAP has been created between this Parcel Van and other coaches. The fire brigade has been called to extinguish the fire. Loco with other coaches shall depart after shunting,” said a statement of East Coast Railway.
Though the reason behind the outbreak of fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that short circuit might have led to the mishap.
