Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Police Commissioner and Works Department secretary to ensure adequate firefighting equipment in police establishments to avoid fire accidents.
The order came after the OHRC considered a petition filed by rights activist Akhand on major fire at the barrack of Capital police station in Bhubaneswar on May 6.
The incident injured one police personnel.
The petitioner alleged that the fire mishap happened due to the irresponsible attitude of the authorities concerned as they have not made a periodical inspection of the wirings and other fittings of the police station.
He had prayed for the provision of adequate firefighting equipment to save valuable human lives and properties of the government.
