Bhubaneswar: Noted litterateur Ramakanta Rath on Thursday received the prestigious Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman for the year 2018 for his contribution to literature.
This is the highest literary award of the state.
Culture and Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda conferred the award on Rath at a function organised by Odisha Sahitya Akademi here.
Born on December 13, 1934, in Cuttack, Rath has penned several books including‘Kete Dinara’, ‘Sachitra Andhara’, ‘Aneka Kothari’, ‘Saptama Rutu’, ‘Sandigdha Mrugaya’, ‘Pheri Chahinle’ and ‘Sri Radha’.
He has also translated the poems of Kabir.
A number of his poems have been translated into English and other Indian languages.
He is a recipient of the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award, Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Saraswati Samman, Bishuva Samman and Kabir Samman. He also received the Padma Bhushan in 2006.
