Red warning for Odisha as met predicts heavy rain


Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted heavy rains and thunderstorm in many parts in Odisha as the depression over east central Bay of Bengal would turn into a Deep Depression during next 12 hours.

A red warning (‘take action’) has been issued for seven districts – Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Koraput – from Thursday to September 21.

Meanwhile Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore have been issued orange warning.

The rest of the districts have yellow warning.

Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore also have red warning from September 21 to September 22.

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 km per hour gusting to 65 km per hour is very likely along and off Odisha Coasts during next 06 hours, the latest MeT bulletin said.

State of sea will be rough to very rough over North Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha Coasts during next 24 hours, the bulletin added.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Bay of Bengal along and off Odisha Coasts during next 24 hours.
