Puri: At least five persons including two minors were killed and 2 others were injured after a car in which they were travelling, turned turtle in Odisha’s Puri district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at Bhailipur near Sukal in the district.
The deceased have been identified as K. Krishna (50), Jagadish (40), K.Yamabati (40), Abnan (7) and Yamabati (5). The injured have been admitted to Chandanpur hospital.
The accident took place when the driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels and it slipped off the road overturning into a canal.
The family from Ganjam’s Patrapur block were on their way to Puri for immersion of ashes and to visit the holy Jagannath Temple.
The bodies of five persons were fished out by fire services personnel.
Conveying his deep sympathy to the bereaved families, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of the kin of the victims.
