New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to grant bail to journalist Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, who faces charges for ‘derogatory remarks’ on Konark temple.
The Supreme Court said Iyer-Mitra’s remarks incited religious feelings and it is not a case for bail.
Two FIRs have been lodged against Mitra-Iyer in Odisha for his alleged derogatory comments about Konark Temple. While one FIR has been filed at the marine police station at Konark, another has been filed at Saheed Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar.
Notably, the Odisha police with the help of Delhi police had arrested Abhijit for his derogatory remarks against Odisha culture. However, Saket court had granted him interim relief and asked to depose before the police.
Later, Iyer-Mitra had moved the Supreme Court seeking regular bail in the case.
