Bhubaneswar: Reliance Jio has put relentless efforts to restore most of its affected telecom network in cyclone hit Odisha and presently nearly 92% of all its network sites in Odisha have become operational.
The cyclone Fani had severely damaged telecom infrastructure in several districts of Odisha.
Jio has completed 100% network restoration in the affected districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati, which were also affected by the cyclone.
In the severely affected cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, with 24×7 work on war footing basis Jio has been able to make most of its affected network sites fully operational.
In the worst affected Puri district, where maximum of the telecom infrastructure got destroyed by the cyclone, the company has been working relentlessly on 24×7 basis to restore its network, resulting in several network site now becoming operational.
Besides, Reliance Jio has also initiated deployment of vehicle mounted mobile towers called Cell on Wheels (CoWs) at key locations in Puri including near Collectorate Office, Puri Railway Station and Medical square on Grand road. In the city of Puri, Jio is deploying a total 8 such CoWs in a bid to quickly restore mobile network in the city.
It is worth mentioning that Jio network was available at most of the affected places on the day of cyclone and with quick restoration of Jio network, lakhs of users of other operators were also able to stay connected in the affected areas through ICR. Jio also offered free SMS facility in the affected areas during and after the cyclone.
Besides, Jio has been providing free mobile charging facility through mobile vans plying in Puri as well as severely affected villages and rural pockets of the district to enable the affected persons to charge their mobile phones and other electronic items till the regular power supply resume. Mobile charging facility is also being provided near all the Cell on Wheels (CoWs) stationed in Puri.
As the fastest growing mobile service provider in the state with widest network availability, Jio has been working closely with the Government and respective district administrations to expedite restoration of communication network in the quickest possible time after the devastating cyclone Fani. Prior to the cyclone Jio sent alerts and awareness messages to over 6 lakh people in the low-lying areas urging them to stay safe by moving to safer places during cyclone.
