Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday vacated the Bijepur assembly seat in Bargarh district and retained Hinjili constituency in Ganjam district.
Patnaik had contested and won both the Assembly constituencies in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
The Chief Minister has sent the resignation letter to Odisha assembly Speaker Surya Narayan Patro.
He also expressed his gratitude and thanked the people of Bijepur for all their love and support.
On Thursday, Naveen had announced special package for the Bijepur constituency focussing on housing, irrigation, healthcare, connectivity, infrastructure and water supply.
Tt would be the second time in two years that Bijepur assembly constituency will witness a bypoll. In early 2018, the constituency went to poll after the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu.
Subal’s widow Rita Sahu had contested on
a BJD ticket and won it.
