76-year man detained on charges of raping daughter-in-law in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: A 76-year-old man has been detained for allegedly attempting to rape his daughter-in-law in Odisha’s Puri district, said police on Monday.

The incident has been reported from Pipili area of Puri district.

The matter came to light after the victim lodged a police complaint against her father-in-law, a retired railway police official, on Sunday night. The woman, who has a 12-year-old son, also submitted a video footage to the police on the act as proof.

The woman also accused her in-laws of dowry harassment.

The complainant alleged that as her husband Panchu Mallick works as a railway staff and stays outside the state, her father-in-law outraged her modesty several times while others in the family are harassing and torturing for dowry.

Though she had brought the matter before her husband, her plight fell on deaf ears, she alleged.

Pipili Police Station inspector in-charge Sarat Chandar Sahu informed that they have registered a case basing on the complaint of the woman and further investigation is on as the complainant has also leveled dowry harassment charges against other in-laws.
