NTPC to fund Bhadrak Covid hospital


Bhubaneswar: NTPC has decided to provide financial assistance to set up a COVID hospital in Odisha’s Bhadrak.

Salandi hospital having 120-bed capacity has been identified to be operational at Bhadrak.

NTPC, as its corporate partner, is extending help to Odisha government in this endeavor for the establishment, operation and management of Salandi hospital to function as Covid care centre, said a statement.

NTPC has committed for compensating and reimbursing maximum an amount of Rs 35 lakhs per month towards the cost of rental charge of the hospital, lodging and boarding of medical and paramedical staff engaged in the hospital and other miscellaneous expenditure for proper and smooth running of the Covid 19 Care Centre.

The financial assistance is being made for a period of 3 months with a total financial implication of Rs 1.05 crore for running and maintenance of Covid Care Centre, the statement said.

In addition, in Sundergarh district, a 200 bed NTPC Medical College cum hospital has already been handed over which shall also start functioning as Covid Care Centre cum Isolation ward for Corona virus infected patients.

NTPC is having three power plants at Kaniha, Thermal (Angul)and Darlipalli (Sundergarh). All the units are continuously helping contract workers and people of the surrounding locality in terms of providing food material and masks, sanitization of locality etc.
