Rath Yatra 2020: MHA gives permission for chariot construction

Bhubaneswar: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday granted permission for the construction of chariots for Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings at Puri.

The MHA allowed the Odisha government to go ahead with Rath construction work at Rathkhala with certain conditions including observance of social distancing during the construction work.

However, the decision to hold Rath Yatra would be taken by the state government keeping in view the conditions prevailing at that point of time, it said.

Earlier, the state government had sought permission of the Centre for construction of chariots during the lockdown period.

The managing committee of the Jagannath Temple Administration had recommended the state government to allow for the construction of chariots for Rath Yatra 2020.
