Kolkata’s Jadavpur University Press (JUP) and its books were welcomed to Odisha by Akshaya and Satabdi at Walking Bookfairs in Bhubaneswar with a book exhibition and a free-wheeling discussion session with JUP Director Dr. Abhijit Gupta and publicist Arunava Banerjee.
The model of academic presses, how they work with content produced by the university, how JUP pushes this model to include publishing translations from original languages like Japanese, French, and Polish into Bengali, and future book ideas were the topics of discussion. Walking Bookfairs will also be stocking all of JUP’s Bengali list, including its social science, literary, and historical titles.
The importance of bookstores and the printed book in promoting the habit of good reading formed the backbone of the evening’s discussions with readers, who went home with quite a few new titles and lingering ideas.
The JUP also is committed to exploring and publishing translations between the Odia and Bengali languages.
