BMC holds preparatory meeting for Capital Foundation Day 2023

Bhubaneswar: Authorities at Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have started preparation for observation of Capital Foundation Day 2023.

The meeting chaired by BMC Mayor Sulochana Das in presence of Dy. Mayor Manjulata Kanhar and Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange  reviewed last year’s  observation and strategy of implementation.

“People are the priority. We should involve citizens to derive pleasure and memories of their city. This year’s foundation day is special as it is the 75th year. As decided by the state government, the event will be organised by BMC and we should start the event from the point where foundation stone was laid,” said the mayor.

In her advice to the officers, the Mayor asked to develop a plan of action that will involve vent, area and communities. 

All officers need to review their portion in line with last year observation and outline the modifications.  This is an inter departmental coordination activity, after development of plan coordination meeting will be organised based on requirements.

Detailed job, micro planning and implantation strategy will be finalized, the Commissioner said. 

Each officer asked to develop own team for coordination and ensure the assignment is done.  All officers were asked to outline tentative plan and finish preparation at respective ends.

He also said that plans need to be climate specific as the event comes during summer season. Morning and evening hour activities will be suitable, he added.

It was discussed that a committee will be formed to steer the activities from planning to implementation.  Event documentation, community participation and line department coordination will be given importance for smooth implementation.

 Senior officers and standing committee chairpersons were present in the meeting.
