Sambalpur: Sambalpur district administration has imposed curfew in the city with immediate effect until further orders.
The decision was taken keeping an eye on the prevailing situation of the town which witnessed violence on Tuesday.
Violence had erupted in the Sambalpur town on Tuesday after two groups indulged in a clash during a procession taken out as a ritual much before the Hanuman Jayanti.
Officials said that curfew has been imposed in the jurisdictional area of police stations of Sambalpur Town, Dhanupali, Khetrajpur, Ainthapali, Bareipali and Sambalpur Sadar with immediate effect until further orders.
“However, in emergency for procurement of any essential items, relaxations may be made during the hours of 8.00 AM to 10.00 AM and 3.30 PM to 5.30 PM,” the official release read.
“Further for any medical emergencies, a helpline is hereby declared. Citizens may reach out the District Headquarters Hospital helpline No.7655800760,” it read.
