Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has strengthened security in key government buildings, including Lok Seva Bhawan and Kharavela Bhawan, due to the Bharat Bandh on August 21, 2024.
The bandh, led by Dalit organizations, protests a Supreme Court ruling on SC/ST reservations.
Secretariat employees have been advised to reach offices by 9:30 AM, and strict identity checks will be implemented. Entry through the front gates will be restricted after 10:15 AM, and only vehicles with valid passes will be allowed entry.
The nationwide Bharat Bandh, scheduled for tomorrow, is expected to see significant security measures in Odisha.
The bandh is expected to have a significant impact on public services and the commercial sector in Odisha. While essential services like healthcare, water supply, and electricity are expected to function normally, public transport may be disrupted. Buses and trains could see delays or cancellations, and there might be a noticeable reduction in the availability of taxis and auto-rickshaws.
Markets, shops, and other commercial establishments may remain closed for the day, leading to a possible slowdown in business activities. However, local traders and small businesses have expressed concerns over potential losses due to the bandh, urging the government to take necessary actions to mitigate its impact.
