CHSE Plus II exams new question pattern

Odisha CHSE introduces new question pattern for Plus II examinations starting 2025

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move towards standardizing the evaluation process, the Odisha Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) has announced a revamped question pattern and mark distribution for the Plus II examinations, set to be implemented from 2025. This change, as per the recent notification, aims to bring uniformity across the Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational streams.

Key Changes in the CHSE Question Pattern

The new pattern of questions and distribution of marks will apply to regular students who registered in 2023 across all streams. The CHSE’s decision to introduce this new pattern is designed to ensure consistency in how students are evaluated, thereby fostering a more equitable assessment environment.

1. Streams with Practical and Project Components:

  • Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational Streams: For subjects with practical and project components, the new pattern will be applied to students appearing for the Annual Higher Secondary Examinations in 2025.
  • Mark Distribution:
    • 70 marks for theory and 30 marks for practicals.
    • 80 marks for theory and 20 marks for projects.
    • For integrated vocational subjects: 50 marks for theory and 50 marks for practicals.
    • For vocational trade subjects: 40 marks for theory and 60 marks for practicals.

2. Non-Practical/Non-Project Subjects:

  • Students registered in 2023 and appearing in 2025 will follow a new question pattern for non-practical/non-project subjects.
  • Mark Distribution:
    • Subjects with 80 marks theory and 20 marks internal.
    • Subjects with 40 marks theory and 10 marks internal.
This internal assessment component has been introduced for the first time starting with the 2025 examinations.

Passing Criteria

The notification further clarifies the minimum passing marks under the new system:

  • Non-Practical/Non-Project Subjects: Students must secure a minimum of 24 marks out of 80 (30% of full marks) to pass, regardless of their internal exam performance.
  • Vocational Stream Subjects: For subjects with a total of 40 marks, the minimum passing requirement is 12 marks (30% of full marks), irrespective of internal marks.

The CHSE’s new question pattern and mark distribution aim to create a more standardized and fair evaluation process for students across Odisha. Students and educators are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these changes to be well-prepared for the upcoming examinations in 2025.
