Odisha Police Inspector suspended for exploiting female home guard

Bhubaneswar: Tapan Kumar Nahak, the Inspector in charge of Kujanga police station in Jagatsinghpur district, was suspended on Wednesday following allegations of exploiting a female home guard.

Officials reported that the inspector reportedly engaged in a physical relationship with the woman, promising to marry her, but later reneged on that promise. The inspector, who was later found to be married, was detained after the female home guard, assigned to the Kujanga police station in Jagatsinghpur district, filed a complaint on Monday.

In response, Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP), YB Khurania, confirmed the suspension and issued an order, stating that the complaint against the inspector involved “gross misconduct and abuse of official position.” Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated.

“In the interest of public service and to ensure fairness in inquiry, I therefore, in exercise of power conferred under Rule 840 of PMR 1940 place the said Inspector Tapan Kumar Nahak under suspension with immediate effect,” said the DGP order.
