Gopalpur Port handles first-ever thermal coal export shipment


Chatrapur: Gopalpur Port, deepest all-weather port in Odisha with round-the-clock operations has achieved a significant operational milestone by successfully handling its first ever thermal coal export shipment, marking its entry into the energy cargo segment.

The vessel MV propel Wealth operated by SEIL Energy India Limited berthed at the port. Approximately 60,000 MT of thermal coal was loaded within 24 hours, marking the highest-ever single vessel loading at Gopalpur Port.

This is the first time Gopalpur Port has handled thermal coal for export, reflecting the port’s growing capability in managing diversified cargo types. To commemorate the occasion, crew members of the vessel, Senior officials from the Port and other terminal staff gathers at the berth to welcome the inaugural ship.

This achievement comes less than a year after Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) acquired Gopalpur Port in September 2024, reinforcing the Adani Group’s commitment to expanding its east coast presence and enhancing multimodal cargo capabilities across India.

Gopalpur Port has been consistently expanding its cargo profile including iron ore, limestone, alumina, cement and now thermal coal.
