Cuttack: The Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Prasanna Kumar Mohali, Sub-Inspector of Police, Subarnapur Out Post under Banki Police Station, Cuttack district, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a bricks factory owner.
According to official sources, the complainant, whose bricks factory had recently been set ablaze by unidentified miscreants, had been persistently requesting certified copies of the FIR and the seizure list related to the incident. These documents were essential for filing an insurance claim to recover the losses incurred due to the arson.
However, SI Mohali allegedly refused to provide the documents unless the complainant paid him a bribe of ₹20,000. Left with no alternative and distressed by the repeated harassment, the complainant approached the Odisha Vigilance authorities and lodged a formal complaint.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a team from the Vigilance Department laid a trap and caught SI Mohali red-handed today while he was accepting the bribe amount. The entire bribe money of ₹20,000 has been recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three different locations linked to SI Mohali to investigate possible Disproportionate Assets (DA).
A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station, bearing Case No. 27 dated 05.09.2025. The investigation is currently ongoing.
