Karan Johar’s Dharma Production mulling to remake Babushaan’s Bou Buttu Bhuta

Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: In what could be the good news for Odia film industry, Producer Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is in the process of acquiring the remake rights of the record-breaking Odia film Babushaan Moahnty’s Bou Buttu Bhuta.
The news was confirmed through a public notice published in Film Information magazine by Rakhee Bajpai Tiwari, Chief Legal Officer at Dharma Productions Private Limited.
The acquisition includes all Indian and world languages as well as derivative rights.
“NOTICE is hereby given to the public in general and film trade in particular that Dharma Productions Private Limited is in the process of acquiring the remake rights of the Odia cinematograph film titled Bou Bhuttu Bhuta in Indian languages and all languages of the world, starring Babushaan Mohanty, Archita, Aparajita Mohanty, amongst others, written by Mohmmad lmran and directed by Jagdish Mishra (“Original Film”) to produce, develop, distribute and exploit the remakes of the Original Film in Indian languages and all languages of the world, along with any and all derivative rights thereof (‘Remake Rights”), across all modes, mediums and platforms including the right to dub and subtitle the Film in all languages, for the world in perpetuity from Babushaan Films Private Limited,” read the notice published on Film Information magazine website.
“To the best of our knowledge and belief, Babushaan Fims Private Limited is the sole, absolute and lawful owner of all intellectual property rights of, including the remake rights in Indian languages and all languages of the world and other derivative works in, the Original Film and all of the aforesaid rights are free of any or all encumbrance, charge, claims or demand whatsoever, and there are no rights, title, or interest of any nature in favour of any third party,” the notice added.

“However, should any person(s) have claim against, to, or in respect of the aforesaid rights including the right to develop, produce, distribute, and exploit the Remake Film, such person(s) are hereby required to make the same known in writing to the undersigned at the address given below, within 15 (fifteen) days from the date of publication hereof, failing which the transaction will be completed without reference to such claims and the same, if any, will be deemed to have been waived,” read the notice published on 22nd September 2025.

Bou Buttu Bhuta, released on June 12, has become the highest-grossing Odia film of all time. This Odia film star Babushaan Mohanty, Archita Sahu, and Aparajita Mohanty in lead roles.
