Bhubaneswar To Have Chandi Medha This Durga Puja

Pandal theme based on the palace from ‘Baahubali’

Bhubaneswar: Following the footsteps of silver city Cuttack, Bhubaneswar is going to feature not one but two ‘Chandi Medha‘ during Durga Puja festival this year.

Cuttack is famous for ‘Chandi Medha’, the silver backgrounds for the goddess during the festival.

The Sahid Nagar Durga Puja Committee has decided to add a ‘Chandi Medha’ to its pandal, making it the second marquee in the city with such a structure. The committee is using 2.5 quintals of silver to build the structure. Earlier, Sarbajanina Durga Puja Samiti of Old Station market was the only marquee with a silver background.

The workers of Khimji Jewellers are making the structure and 90 percent of the work has been finished. We have allocated a budget of Rs 25 lakh for the construction of idol and ‘medha’ – Narayan Mohapatra, secretary of Sahid Nagar Durga Puja Committee.

He said the committee has selected Swaminarayan temple from Surat as the theme for the pandal.

Sarbajanina puja committee has been building Durga puja pandals for the past 60 years, making it the oldest such committee in town. Their pandal is popular among devotees of its unique design and style.

We are investing around Rs 40 lakh for the construction of the pandal themed on the palace from the film ‘Baahubali’. The pandal will be 36 feet tall and 120 feet wide – Deepak Kumar Jena, secretary of the Sarbajanina Durga Puja Committee.
