Odisha records 21% increase in plan expenditure


Bhubaneswar: The state plan expenditure during the financial year 2016-17 has registered an increase of around 21% by November over the same period of the last fiscal.

The state plan expenditure up to November this year has increased to the tune of Rs.24408.50 crore against a total expenditure of Rs.20228 crore during the same period of the last year thereby showing an upward trend of around 21%, said a release on Monday.

This was revealed at a meeting on the fiscal performance review of the state taken by chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here on Tuesday.

Taking stock of the progress, the chief secretary directed to the expedite implementation of the developmental projects during the current working season and complete those in scheduled time.

Development commissioner R. Balakrishnan advised making more use of online litigation management system for quick and timely follow-up of the cases in various courts.

Departments were also advised to keep watch over the implementation of the flagship programs and ensure achievement of the targets fixed for the year.

The expenditure in the agricultural sector has been around Rs 6227 crore which is more than 56% of the budget estimate, said the release.

The infrastructure spending has crossed Rs.6706 crore which is around 59% of the budgeted amount. Similarly, the social sector spending up to November has been to the tune of Rs.10227 crore which is around 55% of the total estimate for the financial year.

The total collection from both the tax and non-tax sources has been around Rs.17,896 crore up to November against the total collection of Rs.17,967 crore during the last corresponding period.

The collection from own tax revenue up to November has been around Rs 13597 crore against the total collection of Rs.13519 crore during the same period of last financial year, said the official.

The collection from non-tax sources has been around Rs.4300 crore.

There has been an increase in collection of revenue from the tax on vehicles, goods and passengers, electricity duty, professional tax, excise, other taxes and duties.
