Footwear Training Centres to come up in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In order to create an eco-system for the growth of footwear industry, Central Footwear Training Institute (CFTI), Agra has joined its hand with the Institute of Entrepreneurship Development Odisha (IEDO) to operate a Footwear Training Centre in IEDO Campus, Bhubaneswar.

The centre would start two training programmes in the first phase starting with February 2018 first week. The centre would provide programmes – One-year Advanced Certificate in Footwear Design and Product Development and six months Certificate Programme in Footwear Design & Production.

In the second phase, the centre would start a new course – PG Diploma in Footwear Industry Entrepreneurship & Development – which is of 18 months duration to create the first line of entrepreneurs in Footwear Industry.

The Footwear Training Centre was launched in IEDO Campus on Wednesday by MSME Minister Prafulla Samal.
MSME secretary L.N. Gupta mentioned that currently there are nearly 100 units which are into production of leather and footwear products in Odisha.

He also said that we should have a target to take the figure to more than 1000 in the next few years in view of the tremendous growth potential in the sector.

He was of the view that the proposed training programmes to be jointly conducted by CFTI Agra and IEDO Bhubaneswar, would facilitate setting up of new units by imparting training to the required skilled manpower for the Leather and Footwear Industry.

Minister Samal emphasized the need for adequate government support for attracting people from SC/ST community by subsidising the course fees.

He also felt that government may provide necessary capital support to setup advanced machineries in the proposed training centre to facilitate in-house local training of trainees using the same.

This would help in reducing the cost of the training programmes for the students.
He stressed on the need for monitoring the quality of Training Programmes through a system of continuing evaluation.
