After bird flu outbreak, 3-month ban on poultry sale in Paradip

Bhubaneswar: Following the outbreak of bird flu, the Odisha government on Monday imposed a ban of three months on poultry sale and farming in Paradip area to curb further spread of avian influenza to other areas.

“Restrictions have been imposed on poultry sale and farming in Paradip area for three months,” informed Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Secretary Vishal Gagan.

Meanwhile, the Jagatsinghpur district administration and the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development department have started culling of poultry in Paradip area.

“A decision has been taken to cull 2,000 chickens in the Paradip area following detection of the bird flu,” Gagan stated.

The district administration is providing adequate compensations to the farm owners in exchange for the killing.

The carcasses are being buried in a dump yard with all preventive measures to check the spread of the virus.

On the other hand, massive awareness drive is being organised in the affected villages not to consume chicken and eggs.
