Raids conducted on 42 jewellery shops in Odisha: Minister


Bhubaneswar: The consumer welfare department conducted raids on 31 jewellery shops during the 2018-19 and 11 shops during the current year in Odisha, informed consumer welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain in the state assembly on Wednesday.

He said action will be taken against jewellers found cheating.

The highest number of jewellery shops were found to have cheated the consumers in Cuttack and Balasore, he informed.

As per the list furnished by the minister, there are as many 7 jewellery shops in Cuttack, six in Balasore and four in Khordha which have found cheating the consumers.

Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro asked why the department did not conduct raids in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur cities.
